Jeff Smith is best known for his work as vocalist, beatboxer, and artistic director for the world-renowned vocal group M•PACT. Since joining the band in 2004, he has toured globally, performing in venues ranging from intimate jazz clubs and major festivals to concert halls and opera houses. Under Jeff’s direction, M•PACT has headlined prestigious a cappella, jazz, and vocal festivals around the world, earning numerous accolades, including multiple awards for Best Jazz Album, Best Jazz Song, Best Jazz Video, and Best Live Video.
A Midwest native, Jeff attended the University of Kansas on a bassoon scholarship. While at KU, he discovered a passion for a cappella and co-founded measureXmeasure ("measure by measure") with a group of fellow music students. What began as a fun side project quickly grew into a full-time career. Over eight years, Jeff toured across more than 30 U.S. states, released three CDs with the group, and took on key roles as arranger, producer, musical director, and business manager.
In addition to his work with M•PACT, Jeff is a full-time freelance musician, producer, arranger, and educator. As a vocalist, he’s performed in a wide range of settings—from studio sessions and commercial jingles to solo and background performances on stage. As a beatboxer, Jeff has been featured at major corporate events for companies like Walmart, Toyota, and H&R Block, and has contributed to film and television soundtracks. He’s also an award-winning mixing engineer and producer, specializing in vocal groups, choirs, and solo artists.
Jeff is a frequent featured vocalist and worship leader at churches across the U.S. and is in high demand as a clinician and coach for choirs, a cappella groups, and other vocal ensembles. He is also a solo recording artist, with several commercial releases available on all digital music platforms. Beyond these endeavors, Jeff serves in the U.S. Army Reserve as the commander and conductor of the 300th Army Band in Los Angeles.
He currently resides in the quiet countryside of South Georgia with his wife, Heather, and their four children.
